Cruise ship use on the world's third largest cruise ship, the Quantum of the Seas. The world's first skydiving simulator (RipCord by iFly) on a cruise ship should be put into operation. We had the task to accompany iFly from Austin / Texas during commissioning. Due to the special requirements for the smoothness of the two huge tunnel fans with 300 kW drive power each, we measured the vibrations over the whole speed range. We found that a fan in a certain speed range reached inadmissible vibration values. Together with the client, it was decided to rebalance the blower. Special measures for balancing have enabled the permissible vibration values to be reduced by more than 60% over the entire speed range.
Bearing damage A typical case: A customer from the food industry calls: "A dedusting blower has an imbalance and should be rebalanced.". The FFT measurement by our engineers on the fan showed that there is no significant imbalance. Envelope analysis diagnosed capital bearing damage. By replacing the complete storage and a precautionary balancing of the fan wheel in our house, the fan runs as on the first day.
